DevOps & platform consulting

Reliable releases.
Stronger platforms.

I help fintech and insurance software teams automate deployments, improve platform reliability and find the cause of production incidents.

Hands-on engineering for teams dealing with manual releases, inconsistent environments or monitoring that leaves them guessing.

01 / Expertise

Make delivery easier.
Make production clearer.

Bring me in when releases depend on manual steps, environments drift apart or your team spends too long figuring out what failed. We start with one problem and agree what a successful fix looks like.

01 — RELEASE AUTOMATION

Ship changes with less manual work.

Replace fragile release routines with tested, repeatable pipelines. Make it clear which version is running and how to recover when a change fails.

  • CI/CD pipeline design & improvement
  • Automated build, test & deployment steps
  • Release approvals & deployment traceability
  • Rollback procedures & team handover
02 — PLATFORM ENGINEERING

Make environments consistent.

Give developers a predictable route from code to a running service. Improve the platform you already use, with clear configuration, access and operating guidance.

  • Kubernetes, containers & Helm
  • Infrastructure as code & GitOps
  • Environment configuration, identity & secrets
  • Cloud & private infrastructure delivery
03 — OBSERVABILITY

Find problems before they spread.

Connect logs, metrics and alerts to the services your business depends on. Help the team see what failed, where to investigate and who should respond.

  • Centralised logs, metrics & dashboards
  • Service objectives & meaningful alert rules
  • Incident runbooks & escalation design
  • Application and infrastructure monitoring
Where I can help

Less operational friction.
More room to deliver.

Focused engineering support for challenges highlighted in current financial-services research: technical debt, operational resilience and integrating new capabilities into existing systems.

01

Maintenance keeps crowding out product work.

Start with the release or environment process consuming engineering time. Automate repeatable steps, simplify configuration and document recovery so routine work depends less on manual intervention.

A focused starting scope: review and improve one release pipeline.

02

Service failures are hard to detect and recover from.

Connect service metrics, application logs and deployment history. Define actionable alerts, incident ownership and recovery procedures, then validate the agreed response with your team.

A focused starting scope: monitoring and an incident runbook for one critical service.

03

New AI capabilities do not fit the existing platform.

Review how an AI service connects to existing applications, data access and deployment workflows. Implement agreed integration and platform controls, including secret references, monitoring and rollback guidance.

A focused starting scope: a production integration review for one AI workflow.

Research behind these priorities

These service priorities draw on financial-services research and regulatory incident reporting, rather than claims about specific clients.

02 / Working together

One clear problem.
A defined piece of work.

Start with a focused technical review. We agree the findings, the implementation scope and the evidence that will show the work is complete.

01

Delivery & platform review

Review a release pipeline, platform setup or monitoring problem. You receive a written assessment, prioritised actions and a walkthrough of the recommended changes.

02

Implementation sprint

Implement an agreed improvement: automate a release path, standardise an environment or add monitoring for a critical service. Includes configuration, validation and handover.

03

Ongoing team support

Add engineering support for a defined backlog of delivery, platform and reliability work. Agree availability and responsibilities up front, with remote delivery and onsite sessions in the Netherlands as needed.

Vin Emery

DevOps & Platform Consultant

I help fintech and insurance software teams automate releases, improve their platforms and troubleshoot production issues.

You work directly with me on the review and implementation. I explain the tradeoffs, document the decisions and hand over changes your team can maintain. I support clients remotely across Europe and the US, with onsite work in the Netherlands.

Before we start

A few practical questions.

What happens after I get in touch?

We discuss the problem, your current setup and the result you need. If there is a fit, I propose a scope, deliverables and fee for you to review before work starts.

Can you work with our existing tools?

Yes. The starting point is your existing stack and the way your team works. We agree changes based on the problem, rather than introducing a new platform for its own sake.

Can we start with something small?

Yes. We can start with one release pipeline, one environment issue or monitoring for one service. Deliverables and acceptance criteria are agreed before implementation.

Will our team own what you build?

Ownership and access are agreed in the engagement terms. My approach includes handing over the implementation, documentation and operating guidance so your team can maintain the result.

Can you work remotely or come onsite?

I offer remote delivery for clients in Europe and the US, with meeting times and availability agreed before the engagement. Onsite sessions are available in the Netherlands.
